2020 Winnebago Revel, Sprinter 4x4, the cassette toilet in the wet bath. my partner and i do long weekends in the San Rafael Swell and the Uintas. once it gets hot the cassette is the weak spot. three days in 95 degree weather and it is full, and opening the blade is an experience. in the cold months we go five days easy.

two questions. what are people using for chemical in summer, the blue stuff or one of the enzyme ones? and where do you empty a cassette when there is no dump station within an hour? i know some places let you pour it into a regular toilet. which places?

no Revel here, but my sister has a Beyond with a cassette and swears by the enzyme kind in hot weather. she says the blue ones smell like a hospital, and then by day three like a hospital that gave up. she also pours a cup of water in before the first use so nothing sticks to the bottom.

emptying is easy if you ask first. a lot of the farms and wineries i stay at have been fine with a cassette going into a flush toilet, because that is all it is. a couple said no and that is their call. campground bathrooms are usually ok but ask the host, some state parks post signs against it.

i keep a gallon jug of water just for rinsing the cassette into the same toilet afterward so i am not leaving a mess for the next person.

our van now has a black tank, but the old Roadtrek had a cassette for six years. two things helped us in the heat. park so the cassette door faces north or sits in shade, it makes a real difference by afternoon. and empty at two thirds, not full. the full ones are the ones that slosh on the walk across the campground.

on the backcountry half of the question. on BLM land the rule is pack it out. a cassette does not get emptied into a vault toilet or a cathole, and a lot of trailhead vaults post that now because people kept doing it. each BLM field office page lists the dump stations nearby if you dig through blm.gov. for the Swell, Green River and Price both have one.

reporting back. switched to an enzyme drop-in and added the cup of water first like the sister said. four nights up the Mirror Lake highway during the heat wave and it was fine, emptied it in Kamas on the way down without holding my breath. the north facing trick helped more than i expected. we park nose south now.
